Stop trespass zoning by industrial wind in Page County, Iowa!

What is going on?

In October of 2019, discussion began in Page County over placing a wind ordinance to “protect” the county in the case that corporations decided to build industrial wind farms in the county. Following the fast passing the ordinance, public meetings took place in both Clarinda and Shenandoah in which both sides were represented, but speakers overwhelmingly were concerned about the presence of wind turbines or the distance it was proposed that they be set back from residences and property lines. Read Page County’s 2019 Wind Ordinance here!

This ordinance allows for the danger or “hardhat zone” of an industrial turbine to cross into the property owned by a non-participating neighbor without consent or payment. Click here to see a full explanation of Trespass Zoning, our organization’s biggest concern with the current ordinance.

So what can you do?

  1. Contact your Page County Supervisors!

  2. Attend a Board of Supervisor’s Meeting and share your concerns in the public comment time (limit 5 minutes). These meetings take place at 8:30 am each Tuesday morning with the exception of the first Tuesday of each month, when meetings are at 6:00 pm. At this point, all meetings take place in the Page Room (upstairs!) in the Page County Courthouse in Clarinda.

  3. Join our organization for fair setbacks! Call 712-542-9943 — Email PageCountyPropertyRights@gmail.com

  4. Let us know you would like a sign! Signs are available and are being placed around the county. Let your neighbors know you are not in favor, and let others in the county know what’s going on! Call 712-542-9943 — Email PageCountyPropertyRights@gmail.com

  5. Donate! Since this ordinance has passed, the supervisors have shut down any opposing voice in multiple settings and ways. We have worked to find ways to have our voices heard——From hosting our own meeting in the fall of 2020 to renting and setting up a booth at the county fair in 2021——But these things cost money. If you are able to help financially, donations are welcome and any amount helps! Please check back for details on how to donate. Call 712-542-9943 — Email PageCountyPropertyRights@gmail.com
